Austin O'Brien
Jazz Singer
Austin O'Brien is an Irish jazz singer, songwriter and performer whose deep voice, emotional delivery and commanding stage presence have made him a recognizable figure on the international jazz scene. Born in Dublin during the 1960s, he grew up immersed in music, singing in school and influenced early on by his father, also a singer.
Though he studied marketing and advertising at university and first worked outside music, the call of the stage proved irresistible. He devoted himself fully to performing, bringing his voice and energy to audiences across Europe.
Settling in France's Hautes-Pyrénées region, O'Brien found a new creative home and quickly became part of the local jazz community. He has said he never felt like a stranger in France, praising the honesty and directness of its people.
O'Brien blends the Great American Songbook tradition with his own melodic sensibility, drawing on icons such as Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett and Mel Tormé, artists known for their phrasing, emotional depth and showmanship. His performances are spontaneous, humorous and deeply expressive, resonating with jazz aficionados and general audiences alike.
Committed to both jazz standards and his own compositions, he has toured extensively in France, playing clubs, festivals and intimate venues, including the famed Caveau de la Huchette in Paris. He performs in everything from duos to quintets, adapting fluidly to each setting.
