Organic Farmer / Irish Green Party politician
Pippa Hackett is a passionate advocate for building resilience through working closely with nature and its processes. She believes that managing, restoring, and regenerating our finite natural resources is essential to supporting a healthy society and vibrant economy. Pippa holds a Degree in Agriculture from the UK, a postgraduate diploma from UCD, and a PhD from the University of Limerick.
She and her husband Mark farm a 200-acre organic farm in Geashill, County Offaly, where they produce beef from suckler cows, lamb from sheep, and operate a bloodstock enterprise. They are proud parents of four children, aged 14 to 22.
Pippa’s journey into politics began in 2016 when she joined the Green Party, driven by concerns about the environmental impacts of human activity. Elected to Offaly County Council in 2019 and to Seanad Éireann in 2020, she became involved in government formation talks that year. In June 2020, she was appointed Minister of State with Responsibility for Biodiversity and Land Use in the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, serving as a cabinet member until January 2025.
